Wummel Box ~ Fun & Creativity Delivered to your Doorstep

I recently had the opportunity to review a Wummel Box. What’s a Wummel Box you ask? In a nutshell, it’s hours of fun and learning for kids wrapped up in the most adorable package and delivered right to your doorstep! Geared toward children ages 3 to 8 years these creative & crafty boxes are full of ideas and illustrated booklets and come with everything you need the complete the activities! We are loving our Wummel Box and so will you...it will keep the kids( and you ) entertained while educating....what better way to learn than through creativity and fun?!

We couldn’t wait to dive right in to the fun projects that were inside our Wummel Box! Our themed box was Food and Nutrition and we were so excited to take it to the kitchen and get the party started!
Every chef needs an apron right? Our Wummel Box came with an apron that my daughter was able to design herself with special fabric crayons. She was thrilled!
Next we got started on our Nutrition Experiment. One of the things I loved the most about the activities in the Wummel Box was the "Wummell indicator"... it shows just how much parental help is needed for a project so you can set aside your time accordingly or let your child work on their own.

We chose to make Potato Paste which took a lot of parental help to complete...I am not quite sure how successful we were since it ended up looking like we just made a batch of Mashed potatoes but we had such a good time together working on it and we are planning on using the finished paste to do some paper mache.
We are looking forward to trying out all of the other activities that were in our Wummel Box...we will have plenty of fun in the days to come!

Oz the Great and Powerful

On a recent visit to Walt Disney World I had the chance to attend an early screening of the movie Oz the Great and Powerful as part of a Disney Parks Blog event.  Seeing this amazing movie in Epcot of all places was truly a fantastic experience.  Prior to the start of the show we spent some time in the The "Land of Oz" garden in Epcot. The "Land of Oz" garden is based on the film and it is absolutely breathtaking. You'll follow the yellow brick road to a children's play area with lots of fun and carnival style games. The garden is filled with beautiful flowers and amazing art-glass poppies. It's also a great spot to take a rest in the shade while the kids play!

Arriving at World Showplace guests were ushered into an Oz themed welcome area. Once inside the theater guests were treated to “Glinda the Good” popcorn (yum) and “Oz the Powerful” punch ( again yum) and we were all entertained with lots of fun Disney trivia before the movie began.  Everybody loves the previews before the movie right? Well, I know I do and the movie previews for Monsters University, The Lone Ranger and Ironman 3 really got the crowd excited...there will be a lot of movie theater visits in my future.

Now, onto Oz the Great and Powerful. ..Phenomenal...I mean, really phenomenal! It's a thrill ride through the vibrantly gorgeous Land of Oz. The story was a perfectly written prequel to the Wizard of Oz as it brought in elements from the classic movie and seamlessly wove a brand new fantastical tale. The casting was spot on..James Franco was charming and handsome as Oscar "Oz" Diggs. Oz's faithful flying monkey sidekick Finley, voiced by Zach Braff, was adorable and funny. I now know that it is possible to have a crush on a CG character! Oh, how I love that witty little monkey! Finley and China Girl, voiced by young actress Joey King, provide lots of laughs as they team up with Oz to take on the Wicked Witch. Speaking of witches...Mila Kunis is fantastic as Theodora. She is sweet and innocent (up to a point) and I found myself rooting for her throughout the movie. Evanora, played by Rachel Weisz is wicked at it's best. Bad never looked so gorgeous!  Michelle Williams was stunning as Glinda the Good...her beauty glowed on screen and she embodied all of the mannerisms of the bubbly good witch we all loved in the original version.  Without spoiling the plot for any that have yet to see the movie, I will say that I loved the way that the origin of how the Wicked Witch of the West came to be was shown. The Land of Oz is all it's glory comes to life in this movie. I saw the movie in 3-D and there were some parts that made me jump. There are also some scary scenes but they are tempered with humor to lighten them up. My 6 , 10, and 12 year old enjoyed the movie so much that they have been asking to go and see it again now that it is out in theaters.  Believe me..seeing the Land of Oz in 3-D is something you do not want to miss!!!

Take a look at this extended clip from Oz the Great and Powerful and do yourself a favor...head to the theater, get a bucket of popcorn, click your heels three times, and head to Oz!!

Disney Princess Half Marathon ~ Magic in Motion

I ran a HALF MARATHON!! Me…a  40 “something”  Mom of four..yes, I did! This wasn’t just your "run" of the mill 13.1 miles though…there were pirates, princes and princesses, a castle, music, and MAGIC…and I mean true magic in so many different ways!

This year was my second year running Disney's Princess Half Marathon. The first year I didn’t know what to expect, the farthest I had ever run up until then was 3 miles here, 5 miles there…nothing even  close to 13 miles! About a month before the race I injured my shoulder and my training suffered…still I was determined to participate in the race. And I did… I finished and it was hot and hard and I was so focused on just finishing that I didn’t fully enjoy the experience. This time around it was a much different experience….my focus was on having fun and boy, did I ever. Fun running 13.1 miles you ask??? Well, here’s where that magic I was telling you about comes in:

The Magic of Teamwork
I felt as if I was on a team while running this race…a HUGE 26,000 person team of supportive encouraging individuals.  Along the race route I heard shouts from spectators and fellow runners,  “You can do it Princess”, “Keep going, almost there”, “You are awesome”! There were women running and walking with their friends, daughters, sisters, mothers….some recovering from cancer….some running for those who could not….some running their very first race ever at the age of 50….Men wearing princess tiaras and tutus running with their wives…an enormous group of cheerleaders pep talking each other throughout each mile. Amazing!

The Magic of Disney
I can think of no better place to run than at the “Most Magical Place on Earth”.  A Run Disney event has the same unparalleled magic of Disney Parks …it is magic in motion.  Jack Sparrow and his crew, handsome princes, beautiful princesses, a friendly genie and a candelabra , a few villains, and many many more characters greet you along your journey. There’s music ….thumping inspirational beats that help you push through your steps.  DJ’s, Marching bands and choir singers keep you motivated and moving.  AND then there’s the Castle…”THE CASTLE”. Imagine running up Main Street in Magic Kingdom ..the street lined with crowds of race fans hooting, hollering, and applauding as they rouse the runners onward.  Now imagine running up to the Castle’s rear entrance and getting to make your way through Cinderella’s intricately decorated hallway! I cried…I felt like a little girl, like a princess, a sweaty princess but an elated one no less.  There was some behind the scenes fun too as we ran through the back of the park and got to see Cinderella’s parade float and a rarely seen view of Thunder Mountain.  Heading in to the home stretch of the race the route takes you through Epcot and you run past Spaceship Earth. A royal welcome awaits you as you crossover the finish line and the medal..see for yourself...it’s fit for a Princess!

The Magic of Believing
Here’s where I get a bit choked up thinking about being having completed the Disney Princess Half Marathon.  As a Mom my first priority is always my children. I manage my household and everyone's schedules and try my very best to be a good example to them in the way I live my life. All parents doubt themselves from time to time, I am no different. I often wonder if I am teaching my kids to be confident in themselves when clearly there are times when my own self confidence is lacking. I wonder sometimes if I have shown them how important it is to believe in their abilities. One of the best things that I got out of participating in this race was a belief in myself. I BELIEVED that I could do it. I BELIEVED while I was training on my treadmill for months. I BELIEVED when I was waiting in my crowded corral at 5:30am. I BELIEVED at Mile 5 when I was still full of energy and enjoying each step. I BELIEVED when I was sniffling (read sobbing) my way through Cinderella’s Castle. I BELIEVED at Mile 11 when my body had other plans than my mind did. ( my hip has since recovered , thank goodness) I BELIEVED in myself the whole entire way! It is not often that I will say out loud (or in writing ) that I am proud of myself..but, Holy cow, I RAN 13.1 MILES!! I am Strong, I am a Princess, and yes, I am Proud of myself!  By setting this personal goal and accomplishing it I was able to (even for just one day) let go of my doubts. As I saw my whole family waiting for me at the finish line I realized that I had just taught my children that they can do ANYTHING they set their minds to....they just have to BELIEVE!

Walt Disney World - New Fantasyland ~ A Dream Come True in The Magic Kingdom

I have been to Walt Disney World many times. Each time my family visits there is something new and special to experience. That said, our last visit was by far the most magical of all of them! My two daughters and I had the opportunity to attend the Grand Opening of New Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom and I have to say, I now know what it's like to live inside a fairytale!

There are two new castles..yes, TWO!! The first one is Beast's Castle and it is breathtaking! The details of the Castle and Be Our Guest Restaurant are beyond description. As you walk down the bridge toward the entry of the restaurant you are immediately transported into the world of Belle and the Beast and their beautiful love story. Cast members in Royal attire welcome you into the Castle and the movie comes to life as you pass by the gargoyles, suits of armor, and beautiful stained glass art work.

Be Our Guest Restaurant is magnificent! There are three themed dining rooms: The West Wing ..darkly lit and complete with the Rose and portrait of the Beast as a prince, The Rose Gallery with large twirling figures of Belle and Beast as the centerpiece of the room, and the Ballroom. The Ballroom is the main dining area of the restaurant and is an exact replica of the ballroom where Belle and Beast danced and fell in love. Large twinkling chandeliers hang from the ornately decorated domed ceiling and the windows ..oh, the windows..I admit I cried when I saw them! I could've stared at the snow falling outside those windows for hours..it is one of those magical Disney touches that leaves you feeling like you are part of the fairytale..and speaking of being part of a fairytale..You really do get to be part of one in Enchanted Tales with Belle! You enter Maurice's workshop and an enchanted mirror takes you through a doorway to Beast's expansive library where Belle and Lumiere invite guests to be part of retelling the "tale as old as time. ( I don't want to post too many pictures of this experience..this magic is such a wonderful surprise for both children and parents)

Not far from Beast's castle is Belle's Village. There you can shop at Bonjour Village Gifts, grab a bite to eat and have a sip of "LeFou's Brew" at Gaston's Tavern, or take a break and rest near the bronze statue fountain of Gaston and his trusty sidekick LeFou! Bonjour! Village gifts offers uniquely themed merchandise. I purchased one of the beautiful Beauty & the Beast wine glass but have my sights set on a full set of dishes the next time I visit!

The second castle is Prince Eric's from the Little Mermaid. As you enter the castle you see that the detail here is just as amazing as in Beast's. Seashells are embedded into the walls and into the ground along your path to board your giant clam shell and journey under the sea with Ariel and her friends! The colorful underwater scenes are straight out of the movie and we found ourselves singing along to all of the classic songs from the soundtrack that are playing throughout the ride! You can meet Ariel and have your picture taken in Ariel's Grotto in this new area as well.

You don't want to miss the Storybook Circus section in New Fantasyland! Inspired by Disney's classic character Dumbo, Storybook Circus has big colorful circus tents and a new interactive queue area. Your kids can play and entertain themselves while waiting to ride one of 2 Dumbo the Flying Elephant aerial adventures! ( It's also the perfect spot for a tired Mommy to sit and relax a bit)  Also in this area you'll find The Barnstormer, a fun roller coaster that's great for all ages, Casey Jr. Splash 'n' Soak Station  , here you can cool off with Casey's "steam" and enjoy monkeys, elephants, and camels spraying water, and Pete's Silly Sideshow where you can meet and take photos with Minnie, Donald, Daisy, and Goofy!!

As if all of that wasn't fabulous enough, Disney Parks will be adding more to New Fantasyland with Princess Fairytale Hall in 2013 and the Seven Dwarves Mine Train in 2014!! New Fantasyland far exceeded my expectations and I am already looking forward to my next trip there! ( In February in case you were wondering! :) I can't wait to go back, there is always a magical experience to be had, new details to be discovered, and special memories to be made!

*Disclosure ~ big thanks to Disney Social Media for inviting me to attend this special media event. Travel, resort stay, special events, and branded merchandise were included in my visit. I was not asked at anytime to post about New Fantasyland. All opinions are my own**

Back to School with Crest and Oral B

Back to School time is a perfect time to revamp and reestablish schedules and routines with your kids. Crest and Oral-B are helping to encourage healthy oral care habits in children and Tweens with their new Oral -B for Me line. I had a chance to attend the Crest and Oral-B Back to School launch event in NYC this past week and  listened to celebrity Mom Jennie Garth and Dentist/Orthodontist Dr. Jennifer Salzer speak about the benefits of healthy oral habits and the new products that Crest and Oral-B are introducing to make it a cinch for Moms and kids to keep up with proper oral care. Brushing shouldn't be a chore and with Crest and Oral -B for Me products proper oral care is easier and fun for kids. Oral-B's Rechargeable toothbrush has a 2 minute timer that lets kids know exactly how long they should be brushing. The Rechargeable toothbrush is a must for any child with orthodontics..getting into those hard to reach areas where food may get stuck. There's also the Crest Pro Health For Me "Swish the Gunk Out" Anti-cavity fluoride rinse too to help get all the well,.....gunk out !! Crest's new Pro-Health For Me toothpaste is flavored with a mild mint specifically with tweens in mind. Not as strong as adult toothpaste and not a sweet as the toothpaste available to the younger set. Speaking of toothpaste for the younger set..Crest Pro-Health Stages has a new Jake and the Neverland Pirates berry flavored toothpaste just for your little ones! Be sure to check out the Oral-B stages toothbrushes ( with fun new characters) too..broken down by stages of dental development you're sure to find the right toothbrush for any age.  Crest and Oral-B feel that if you give kids their own products they are more likely to take pride and responsibility in their oral care. And, don't forget , when your kids see you taking care of yourself and your oral hygiene they will do the same.

Disney Pictures The Odd Life Of Timothy Green - Review

I had the opportunity to see an advanced screening of  Disney Pictures The Odd Life of Timothy Green  last week. Oh my gosh, I can't even begin to tell you how much I loved this movie!! Set in the old fashioned fictional town of Stanleyville, PA it's the story of couple Jim and Cindy Green ( played by Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Garner) who are unable to have children of their own. They write down all of the characteristics they would have loved their child to have, put it in a box, bury it in the ground, and with sadness decide to move forward. That night after a big storm, 10 year old Timothy appears magically..with leaves on his legs and tells them that they are his Mom & Dad. Incredulous, they realize that Timothy is the child of their dreams and they are suddenly thrust into world of parenthood.

Worried that people may not understand that he is different, they decide it's best to hide his leaves under a pair of socks ( which, he wears all of the time..even swimming). Timothy can't hide his wonderful uniqueness though and it attracts the attention of everyone he comes into contact with. There are  important inspiring lessons taught in this movie and as a parent to four children they really resonated with me. I want to teach my children to embrace their differences and to be accepting of others and The Odd Life of Timothy Green showcases the beauty in doing so. I laughed and cried as I watched Timothy and the Greens create their family. Jennifer Garner & Joel Edgerton perfectly capture all of the insecurities, mistakes, and emotions we as parents experience with our own children. CJ Adams is funny and charming as Timothy and will have you falling in love with him from the minute you meet him on screen. The Odd Life of Timothy Green is a MUST see. Much like Timothy when he stretches his arms out to take in the sunlight, you will leave this movie with a heart warming, spirit lifting realization of what is truly the most important thing in life...Love and embracing your own light. The Odd Life of Timothy Green opens on August 15th. To hear more about the movie find them on Facebook and Follow on Twitter  and go to the official page at http://disney.go.com/the-odd-life-of-timothy-green/cast.html
